James ('Glass') Cartwright

Philosophy of life

James Cartwright Life has taught me that it is not only what you do, but how and why you do it that is truly important. Life has also taught me that it is not so much what happens to you, but what you choose to make of it that promotes or impedes development.

Personal information

I am a happily married father of three, who recently moved from Asheville/Weaverville, NC to Albuquerque, NM. I enjoy writing and reading, hiking, playing and listening to music, cooking and eating good food, listening and conversing, and (more than anything) exploring the meaning of life as well as its variety of expressions: especially as regards the infinite perfectability of human being.

Professional Information

I am the sole proprietor of Glass Eye Web which specializes in the design and development of rapid-loading, professional quality websites with refined aesthetic appeal at reasonable rates. I allot 10% of my earnings each year for covering the cost of free or reduced rate work for deserving not-for-profit organizations.

Competencies & Tools

Extremely comfortable hand-coding HTML, XHTML, and CSS.
Web applications developed on PHP/MySQL/Apache platform.
Team player who communicates well (both written and verbal).

Background

Angeles City I was born in Angeles City, Pampanga Province, on the Philippine island of Luzon. One of my first lessons, then, was that life makes its way despite adversity.

Formal Education

I graduated from William B. Travis High in 1984 with a distaste for the institution of school yet with a passion for learning.

Informal Education

My favored method of education is that of direct hands-on involvement and in-depth study under the eye and disciplined hand of one who has mastered an art or science before me. In this way I have learned:

» Design & layout
» Music & performance
» The art of the barrista
» Rare book conservation
» Copying, printing & publishing
» Dream yoga, martial arts, & other esoteric disciplines
